Wildlife Group
Group Leader:- Erica G.
Meetings take place:- Usually on the Monday following the main ACU3A monthly meeting
When:- 2pm to about 4.30
Where:- For outdoor events we usually meet at The Hub and share cars from there. Sometimes we meet at Erica's house or other members' homes.
The aim of the group is to look at local wildlife. We usually go for short walks, often in nature reserves. We try to find and roughly identify flowers, fungi, insects, other invertebrates, mammals and any passing birds.
We try to increase our knowledge of local wildlife. Our walks are usually quite short as some of our members are less mobile than they used to be. I try to indicate in the programme how hard the walking will be.
We usually finish with tea at a café or a member's home.
Here is our plan for the 2018 meetings.
Monday Jan 22 Indoor meeting - talk about badgers
Monday Feb 26 Indoor meeting - dissect owl pellets (if available)
Monday March 26 Indoor meeting - talk about owls
Monday April 23 Green Dragon Rare Breeds Farm and Eco Park
Monday May 21 Bluebells Docky Wood
Monday June 25 Orchids at Aston Clinton Ragpits
Monday July 23 Butterflies at Bacombe Hill
Monday August 20 Walk round wildlife ponds in Drayton Beauchamp
Monday Sept 24 Walk along Wendover arm
Monday October 22 Deer and fungi at Ashridge
Monday Nov 19 Planning and Buffet
Indoor meetings will be at my house.
The other meetings we usually meet at The Hub to car share.
I will send out details about a week before each meeting.
We decided that since there is a birdwatching group we wouldn’t have meetings just to look for birds.
Here are a couple of pictures taken at our "Rutting and Rotting Wood" trip to Ashridge in October.
