Wendover Woods - 30th May 2014
The A/C U3A Birdwatching Group’s field trip to Wendover Woods was
primarily to find Firecrests. The Firecrest is the UK’s smallest bird which
usually spends it’s life high in the fir trees and is very hard to see. This
time of year however they are feeding young, and so often come down lower to
find food. We were very lucky to see four Firecrests quite well as Mick’s
photo’s show. We also saw Goldcrests so were able to compare the two species. In
this very successful mornings birdwatching we saw twenty-one other bird species
including:
Willow Warbler
Linnet
Swallow
House Martin
Chiffchaff
Whitethroat
Yellowhammer
Blackcap
Buzzard
Jay
