Wilstone Reservoir - 27th March 2015
We had a good mornings birding in very pleasant sunny, if a bit chilly at
first, conditions. I have attached the bird list, over 40 species, which is
pretty good, this included a female Scaup which was a new species for most.
Scaup is a sea duck which is rarely seen inland in Britain. We also watched
Great Crested Grebe which were starting their courtship ritual of dancing and
weed waving, and saw the first Chiffchaff of the year.
The birds we saw were:
Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Mute Swan, Greylag Goose, Canada Goose, Mallard, Gadwall, Shoveler, Teal, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Scaup, Red Kite, Buzzard, Kestrel, Moorhen, Coot, Redshank, Black-headed Gull, Wood Pigeon, Stock Dove, Green Woodpecker (heard), Great Spotted Woodpecker (heard), Pied Wagtail, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, Redwing, Song Thrush, Chiffchaff, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Starling, Jay, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Rook, House Sparrow, Chaffinch and Goldfinch.
