St George's Day Lunch
April 23rd 2017
On Sunday 23rd April Aston Clinton U3A held its first St. George’s Day Lunch at the Chiltern Forest Golf Club. It was a lovely April day with the surroundings on the edge of the Chilterns showing the countryside at its best with the new fresh green shoots of spring on display. On entry, we were greeted by our chairman Roger Colebrook and his wife Janet who presented roses to the ladies and button holes to the men. We were then shown to our tables by either Bernard or Terry. After time to circulate and chat we were welcomed by the organiser, Geoff Evans. Our chairman Roger then proposed the loyal toast. After the first course we were entertained to several monologues by member of our group and after the main course an “English Cabaret with James and Grahame” entertained us with very English traditional songs which ended with the National Anthem to our Queen. After dessert, Geoff provided the answers to a short history quiz, with the winning table receiving a box of Roses chocolates and the losers a bag of wine gums! Finally, after coffee, Roger proposed thanks to Geoff for organising such a pleasurable event. I’m sure we all agree – it was very successful indeed. Many thanks Geoff.
