Burnham Beeches - 24th October 2018
When members of the Walking Group set out on a 5 mile walk through the glorious beechwoods at Burnham in lovely autumn sunshine, we expected to see incredible fungi, carpets of golden leaves, ancient and venerable oaks big enough for some of us to scramble inside for a photoshoot - but there were surprises in store!
Strolling along we encountered ponies grazing - were we in the New Forest? ...... But large black pigs emerging from the trees stopped us in our tracks. Fortunately they were far more interested in the acorns that covered the ground than they were in us. They turned out to be quite amiable and joined us for a short distance before wandering back into the woods.
It was a cheerful and jolly group that returned after our trek. Some hungry members headed for the woodland cafe, and sat outside in the sunshine with big mugs of coffee or tea and....(dare I say it?) - lovely bacon sarnies.
